In the early 60’s, in a junior dinghy regatta, he was first. That kept him going and he became a "regatta junkie". Well known in the US racing community he was hired by boat owners to race their boats as a professional in different classes.

For January 2005 he was already registered for the Miami Olympic Class Regatta MOCR Championship. After Boxing Day he received a phone call from "Joy –International" to work with their Tsunami-Relief- Project and was sent to Malaysia and Thailand. There he got in contact with yachties and he was impressed how much sailing was going on in South East Asia.

As a racer by nature he could not resist joining the local sailing events, PNBR and RLIR, and had the chance crewing on Chameleon.
