Being a newcomer to regatta life I was not truly prepared for the amount of stamina required to keep up with the 'apres yachting'! The nightly presentation dinners have tested not only my waistline, liver and rhythm but also my reflexes. No-one had warned me not to stand in the way of hungry yachties! BMW, Petronas, Malaysia Airlines and American Express have come to 'the party' with venues ranging from the middle of the padi fields, to the 'Alhambra' of Langkawi, to beachside paradise and of course here at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club. The glorious settings, sumptuous food and upbeat entertainment have truly given us a taste of what Langkawi and the BMW Royal Langkawi Regatta have to offer. Over a drink or two, people have caught up with old friends, made new ones and celebrated the days racing. As both the managing director of BMW Malaysia, Mr. Wolfgang Schlimme and Commodore of Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, Y.A.M. Tunku Tan Sri Abdullah emphasized at the Welcome Dinner, the regatta is not only about the sailing but the spirit of the event! I’m sure they will be more than happy with how all have embraced their words. I reckon I have got just enough fuel for one more party (probably still running on the sugar from my dessert blowout at Four Seasons the other night!) so, see you and your dancing shoes at the Closing Ceremony. |
