They own a business called Nautical Bits, which offers a number of services including marine spares, storage, supplies, caretaking and more. You may have read about them in one of the cruising guides. Sheila is from Miri in Sarawak and Paul, originally from the UK, has made Malaysia home for the past 20 years. Paul has his skipper's ticket, done marine construction and was the manager of Sunsail here at the Yacht Club. In his 'youth' he took part in a lot of races, but for this one he is more than happy with his role as assistant measurer. Sheila is one of the office personnel volunteers for the regatta. However she is just as comfortable as Paul on the water and has her Second Mate's ticket. They plan to be regulars at future regattas.
They left Freemantle, Australia in 2003 on their boat 'Stolen Kiss' an S & S 45. They made their way here via Darwin, Indonesia and Singapore. Since arriving in December 2003 they have been cruising between here and Phuket. Plans include the Indian Ocean and Africa but they will return to Langkawi as they love the friendliness and easy going attitude of the cruising community and local people here. |
