40 Yachts to Compete in Langkawi Race

Langkawi, January 2006he fourth edition of the Royal Langkawi International Regatta promises to be even bigger than previously with more than 40 yachts having confirmed participation for competitions scheduled for Feb 13-16.

The premier sailing championships in the country offer two main trophies - the Prime Minister's Challenge Trophy for the international-registered yacht competition and the Commodore Challenge Cup for club-registered cruisers.

The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC) commodore, Tunku Tan Sri Abdullah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, said that an all-expenses paid trip to Valencia to meet the BMW Oracle race team and a tour of the BMW Oracle base camp was the special prize for the winners of the Prime Minister's Challenge Trophy.

"The trip is sponsored by BMW Malaysia, who are the partners of 2006 Royal Langkawi International Regatta," said Tunku Tan Sri Abdullah.

He added that the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, would grace the prize presentation ceremony on Feb 16.
