Ulumulu Wins the First Day Race

13 February 2006 - As expected, the yacht "Ulumulu" skippered by the King's Cup 2005 winner, Ray Roberts from Australia cruised to win the first day race in the Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) 2006 at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC), here Monday.
Ulumulu collected one point after finishing the race in 3 hours 06 minutes 25 seconds to overtake the Swedish yacht "Ericsson (V060)" steered by Thomas Blixt.
Ericsson, with two points, reached the finishing line 26 seconds after Ulumulu while Mahligai booked the third placing with a time of 3'10:32s and collected 3 points.
The Malaysian yacht owned by the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), Zuhrah clocked 3'19:21s to be in fourth placed.
The first day race started with a splendid wind blowing at about eight to 10 knots and it gradually decreased in the late evening.
Meanwhile, in the IRC class, Minx scored one point and clocked the fastest time of 2'07:04s to win the first day race.
Cinders of United Kingdom was in second place with 2'08:00s and the Malaysian Youth Team boat, Gapurna Mas Ayu II was in third place with 2'16:21s.
Bolero of Netherlands scored one point to secure the first place in the Club class, registering the fastest time of 1'59:37s.
Image Asia Jemini Jo scored two points with 2'05:05s for second placing while Nom de Plume of Australia scored three points for third placing.
There were 33 vessels from Malaysia and abroad participating in this year's regatta for the Prime Minister's Challenge Trophy and the Commodore's Challenge Cup.
