Yachting/4th Royal Langkawi International Regatta: Debut Entrance of 'SOFA.SO.GOOD'

11 FEB 2006, THE MALAY MAIL BACK TO PRESS LISTING

Langkawi, Feb 11 2006 - THE sea around Langkawi will once again witness international sailors battling it out in the Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) which begins next week.

From the expected number of 45 yachts taking part, Singapore-based couple John Ramsden and Sharon Ee are set to steal the limelight by sailing in their new boat; The Elan Impression 434 ‘Sofa.So.Good' (above).

Ramsden started sailing dinghies at the tender age of six, thanks to the influence of his father who is the current chairperson of the Royal Yachting Association in Britain.

Sharon, meanwhile, has more then 10 years of experience in the sport and teamed up with Ramsden to race a Laser 4000. The duo, sailing in their JS 900, later clinched the keelboat class title in the 2004 Singapore Straits Regatta.

The fourth edition of the meet, which is part of the Asian Regatta calendar, will start on Monday while Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is set to hand out the Prime Minister Challenge Trophy next Thursday.
