The Fireflies finishing Race 6Lack of any wind on the morning of the fourth day of the RLIR kept the AP flag up and all crews waiting for the first breeze at 0845. But once on line the wind cooperated by strengthening to 7-8 mph. So the boats got off on a short one mile up wind/down wind course in Kuah Bay. Buoys were set in record time to take advantage of what wind there was as Results Officer Gray Pritchett hopped aboard the start boat from a session on the Navy Sports boat with his crew from Brisbane, scraping shrouds and nearly bringing the mast with him.

In smart order the Racers were off in a lunge with HI FI having to do a 360. MATA HARI led the IRCs and Premier Cruisers across with TROPICBIRD, this time, part of the pack. Meanwhile JELIK, FULL METAL JACKET and MICROLAB raced for the top mark but the big Hong Kong boat pulled away once under spinnaker. LONGTZE PREMIER set a port tack across in contrast to the other Sports boats and SOFA SO GOOD, RUSALKA and ELOISE led the Club boats as a clump of Racers met JELIK on her return from the leeward mark.

The Sports boats line up for the start of Race 6Some delicate maneuvering was required as the crowd converged on the northern mark with HI FI sliding under MICROLAB's nose and then both QUANTUM RACING and FULL METAL JACKET getting by her as well. Meanwhile JELIK was approaching the high side again, so far ahead was she. Meanwhile the Fireflies were spread out for most of the race with MAMBA sandwiched between TWIN SHARKS and MOTO INZI. LUNCHCUTTER II rounded first ahead of the IRC boats and the others were beat round by Sports boat RAIMON LAND.

On the second down wind leg, hearts stopped when JELIK's spinnaker hour-glassed but she managed to slice around the buoy just as the LONGTZES converged on the leeward mark with Langkawi in the lead. For the rest of the race the fleet held pretty much together as the wind flagged to 6 and then 5 mph. Then at the finish, TWIN SHARKS literally danced across ahead of her class and RAIMON LAND and LUNCHCUTTER II finished together after their two rounds, followed by MATA HARI.

MOTO INZI pipped MAMBA at the line with JELIK bearing down on them and PHOENIX crossed first among the IRC-1 class boats. Then Langkawi led the LONGTZES in and X CATRIOT, the Multis. That left MY TOY chasing the top mark as they moved it to Bass Harbour for more wind.
