EAGLE NEWSLETTER 2008

The Geopark Oriental Village hosted the participants of the RLIR 2008 on day two of the event"Wow this is good," I heard someone say as we walked into the village surroundings of the Geopark Oriental Village which is where the cable car ride starts from.

We almost had to step over the Malaysian musicians sat cross-legged on the floor in their traditional dress. It was definitely worth the 35-minute bus ride through Tanjung Rhu. Had I been driving it would not have crossed my mind to go all that way round the island but thinking about it I guess it was quicker by keeping the speed up.

Huge round tables catering for 10 or 12 people were all nicely laid out on both sides of the bridge and I counted at least four buffet lines.

Most impressive were the extremely cute mini-skirted Tiger girls who would appear with a tray full of free frosties when the beer in your glass went below a certain level. Now, that's what I call service.

The previously stepped-on Malaysian musicians entertained us with traditional music. On another nearby bridge there was more dancing. In fact, it was a very nicely laid out show.

I had just finished scoffing my salad and about to attack the buffet once more when the prize giving got underway. With enough delicious food, and beer, in their bellies and trophies in their hands, the winners of the Langkawi Geopark Race were a happy bunch.

As I was trying to count how many beers I had had, someone said the buses were leaving. Not wanting to be left on the wrong side of the island I grabbed another frosty from the table and headed off to the bus and another tour through Tanjung Rhu. Strange, but the journey seemed much shorter going home.

Thurday's dinner and prize presentation will be at the Aseania Hotel in Pantai Tengah... hopefully with more Tiger girls.
