In his various capacities he travels to sailing competitions all over the world - in Europe, Russia or the Americas. Asia however, is a favourite destination, so he mainly supplies his expertise to sailing events in these countries. Mark says he enjoys these world-wide competitions but dislikes the actual travelling, the long hours of flying between events.

One of his most enjoyable assignments was as Technical Delegate for the ISAF at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, Qatar. Mark was in charge of 128 officials - both on the water and ashore, all of whom were from Asian countries. The various sailing events had national teams representing 20 Asian countries.

Mark has competed in sailing races over the last 30 years, including nine World Championships and dozens of international events in skiffs, catamarans, and one design boats.

In earlier years Mark was a referee for the Rugby League and he knew the rules well. Then as a sailor he realized he knew the rules better than the race officials of the events he was sailing in. Mark stepped in to do a better job. He says, "Race management boils down to attention to detail." Yet one wonders then why it is that, when the wind dies, it is all HIS FAULT!
