Exciting Starts - Flagging Winds

Race Day 2 brought strong starting winds to Kuah Bay as the fleet lined up for the first of two races run along an up-wind/down-wind course the length of the bay. Breezes built from eight to over 15 knots for the start of the first race as the white flags clustered together in such a well maneuvered start that Microlab got only her turnbuckle over before the rest of the field.

Creating Waves

If there's one boat that's creating big waves it's JELIK. Coming up from Singapore in the Raja Muda and onto the Kings Cup where she won six out of seven races, she is now ready to show everyone how its done here at the Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2008.

Timely Rescue

The Malaysian Navy's HR-HIB is one of the assistance boats in the regatta. This speedy black boat carries two 200 HP outboard engines. LT Madya (Sub Lieutenant) Mohd Nashahi is in charge with four other Navy men. On day one, they were instrumental in a rescue mission. Lt Nashahi modestly claimed that their boat just happened to be nearby when Siti, the girl crewmember of Longtze Premier, went overboard. Still, we thank them for being there!

Making His Mark

Mark Pryke is here for the 6th time as the Principal Race Management Officer for the Royal Langkawi International Regatta. Mark is from Sydney, Australia, yet he spends about a third of the year away from home on official duties for the ISAF (International Sailing Federation) either as Race Officer, International Judge or Instructor. Mark is one of only eight Instructors in the world for ISAF Race Management Instruction.

The Eagle joins with the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club in welcoming everyone to Langkawi. Between races it is hoped that you will find the time to explore our beautiful island. There is something for everyone here, from the grandeur of the western mountains with its hiking trails and spectacular views, to its lovely harbours, its many venues where the visitor can have a more intimate view of our natural wonders. A quick drive could take you around some of the more popular spots in one day.
