Azmie LatifIf you were a guest of the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club and you need transport Azmie Latif would be the guy sent to pick you up. A resident of Langkawi for the last 12 years, Azmie came to this mystical island to take the job of storekeeper for the massive airport sea wall project.

Now, Azmie who has a 12-seater license for driving mini vans spends most his time shuttling his colleagues at the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club. "I make sure the staff are driven safely home after they've worked their long shifts at the club," says Azmie.

During the Royal Langkawi International Regatta, Azmie finds himself having to make more trips than usual, his trusted van carrying guests and regatta participants to and from the airport, hotel and the yacht club. When he does get any free time, 35-year-old Azmie, who is a father of two, enjoys a game of badminton now and again.

Abdul LatifAbdul Latif is the man that catches your mooring lines and safely attaches your boat to the cleats. He may even repair your electricity supply, or fix a hole in the dock.

Deciding to move from his job as navigator in the Malaysian Navy stationed in Langkawi, he was snapped up by the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club as marina line handler and general maintenance man eight years ago. Regatta time is always the busiest with 36 boats registered this year keeping Latif and his fellow marina crew on their toes all day.

Originally from Alor Setar on the mainland, Latif entered the Malaysian Navy after leaving school and permanently relocated to Langkawi in 1992 with his wife and four children. At 50 years old Latif enjoys a game of football, but not just Manchester United on TV. Latif likes to get the boots on and score his own goals.
